From the dawning of history, humans have cherished gold. Sophisticated works of gold have been created in all of the great pre-classical civilizations, and continue to be produced across the globe today. Whether refined from ore, or found in stream beds as flakes and nuggets, gold possesses a warm luster that has long been associated with the divine. I work in 22 karat gold, which I alloy myself using my own proprietary recipe. The way high karat gold warms instantly to the touch, how it develops a relationship with the wearer as it takes on its own patina over time, renders my work timeless and personal.

Diamond. Ruby. Sapphire. Emerald. Aquamarine. Chrysoberyl. Topaz. Tourmaline. Peridot. Garnet. Pearl. Opal. These are the twelve key gems, each endowed with elemental beauty. There are others equally, or even more valuable - paraiba, tanzanite, morganite, more. The exquisite light and play of colors within gemstones make them precious. Their rarity, hardness, and the difficulty associated with mining them make them doubly valuable. Historically, some gemstones were thought to magically increase fertility, heal disease, guarantee safe travel, or even induce love. While I can’t promise any of these effects, each stone in my collection has been carefully curated for its own exceptional beauty. Ethically sourced, imperfectly perfect, they are all mineralogical miracles.

It is generally considered that the shape of the object should primarily relate to its intended function or purpose. In art, this becomes debatable. Jewelry has historically been, and remains, an important form of human expression. Objects we value hold memories, feelings. They tell stories as they are passed down through generations. We are born into a world of symbol and association. Every design I create bears these facts in mind. Each jewel has an intent and purpose that transcends form and function in order to tell its own story.

Patience. Molten metal cannot be forced. It must be coaxed and seduced into its intended form. Every piece I make begins with the stone. Ring. Necklace. Earring. Charm. The stone tells me what it wants to be. For me, that’s the easy part. Translating this understanding into a wearable piece of art is the hard part. Meticulous attention to detail and craft are the required elements to successfully turn gold and gemstones into objects that reflect the purity of process that went into their creation. Each jewel I make is a moment of time, suspended. A map of emotion, imbued with memory. The hand of the goldsmith must be evident throughout. No two pieces I make will ever be identical.
