nerithe ring

nerithe ring
Named for Nerithe, an ancient Greek sea nymph, this ring features an ancient Greek silver Litra struck 474 - 450 B.C.E. and set in 22 k gold, flanked by a pair of sugarloaf Ceylon sapphire cabochons.
Nerithe was loved by both Aphrodite and Poseidon. The myth tells us that when Nerithe refused to leave the sea and ascend to Olympus with Aphrodite, she transformed him into a sea creature - depicted in our ring by a rare and beautifully struck octopus.
Over the milennia, Nerithe has come to symbolize beauty, loyalty to one's origins and true nature, and the quiet strength inherent in remaining true to one's self regardless of pressure or temptation.
