WOMEN IN FULL
On the heels of a particularly challenging day, my daughter Annie told me she admires the way I walk through the world. I asked her what she meant by that, and her answer triggered memories of my grandmother, Beatrice Margaret Leckie Jury. I called her Gami.
Gami saw more than her fair share of challenging days. The First World War, the pandemic of 1918, the great depression, the Second World War - she experienced triumph, tragedy and everything in between with grace, strength, and dignity. She was my person, my role model. She led by example for how to weather hard times, and also set the bar for how to celebrate.
There are many other women who have been an inspiration to me. Some are older. Some younger. Women who face both struggle and success with grace and love, dignity and strength - women I admire, women who inspire me. I have come to think of them as women in full.
